Italian President Sergio Mattarella Visits the Hebrew University of Jerusalem

Jerusalem, October 30, 2016 — On the first day of his state visit to Israel, the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, gave a keynote address today to an overflow audience numbering several hundred people, at the Truman Institute on the university’s Mount Scopus campus.

Addressing today’s earthquake, President Mattarella said: “Thank you very much for your words of solidarity directed toward Italy, with regard to the earthquake that in recent days has affected many municipalities in different regions of central Italy, adding to what had hit other municipalities at the end of August. These are sad days for Italy. Municipalities with much history, with great architectural charm, rich in monuments and daily life have been damaged, and in August there were many victims. In the coming months and in the next few years Italy is and will be committed to rebuilding these municipalities as they were.”
