Professor Yosef (Yossi) Garfinkel, Yigael Yadin Chair in Archaeology of Israel at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, will share the latest discoveries from the Ophel excavations, adjacent to the Temple Mount. Continuing the pioneering work of the late Dr Eilat Mazar, Professor Garfinkel is leading excavations at what is believed to have been the royal precinct of the Kings of Judah, offering fresh insights into the political and administrative heart of ancient Jerusalem.
Joining him in conversation is Professor Gil Davis, Professor of Archaeology and Ancient History at Australian Catholic University and a long-time collaborator on Professor Garfinkel’s excavations. Together, they will discuss the significance of these discoveries, the challenges of excavating one of the world’s most important archaeological sites, and what the evidence can tell us about Jerusalem during the period of the biblical monarchy.
