Trauma and Resilience Academic Mission to Israel 2026

The Hebrew University’s Trauma & Resilience Academic Summer Mission, facilitated by the Australian Friends of the Hebrew University, provides Australian mental health professionals with an immersive academic and clinical experience in Israel.

Led by internationally recognised trauma experts from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and METIV: Herzog Israel Centre for the Treatment of Psychotrauma, the program combines rigorous study with practical, on-site learning, offering participants direct insight into trauma treatment, recovery, and resilience strategies developed in Israel following the events of October 7.

Program Overview

  • Two-week academic course: 25 June – 9 July 2026 at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem
  • Optional advanced clinical training week: 12 – 16 July 2026 at METIV Clinic, Herzog Hospital

At the heart of the mission is the Hebrew University’s Trauma & Resilience: Theory & Practice from the Israeli Experience short course. Highlights include:

  • Psychological trauma: consequences, recovery, and long-term impact
  • Resilience: theory, research, and practical application
  • Community preparedness for terrorism and disaster
  • Developmental and gender aspects of children and trauma
  • Evidence-based clinical interventions
  • Post–October 7th trauma response and frontline therapy practices

Participation is expected to provide recognised Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours and academic credit for advanced clinical training. Participants should confirm eligibility with their accrediting institutions.

Academic and Clinical Leadership

The course is led by Dr Danny Brom, Founding Director of METIV, and his clinical team, alongside trauma experts from the Hebrew University. Dr Brom brings decades of experience supporting survivors of terror and mass trauma, emphasising resilience as a learnable process that can be strengthened at individual, family, and community levels.

Exclusive On-Site Learning

As part of the mission, participants will:

  • Visit the Eshkol region and meet frontline psychologists providing trauma care
  • Tour the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health at the Hebrew University
  • Engage with clinicians applying Israel’s trauma research in practice

The mission is intended for mental health professionals, clinicians, allied health practitioners, social workers, and educators working with trauma-exposed populations.  For Australian Jewish communities, the program offers insight into how communal resilience is cultivated and maintained in the aftermath of trauma.
